Finding beauty in the city that others walk past without looking.

Miho Takai grew up in Tokyo, came to New York to study art, and never left.

Trained at the National Academy of Art and the Art Students League of New York, she found in Brooklyn what Tokyo couldn't offer: a city of radical contrasts, where wealth and struggle exist side by side, where the mundane and the extraordinary share the same sidewalk.

Her paintings and sculptures capture that tension. Ordinary people. Familiar corners. Everyday moments rendered in color that feels almost too alive for the subject matter. That's the point.

Having grown up in one of the world's great cities, Miho arrived in New York with fresh eyes and a sharper sense of what makes it unlike anywhere else. The racial and economic complexity, the noise, the anonymity, the beauty hiding in plain sight. As she puts it: "Where there is brighter light, the shadows are darker."

New York is neither as bright nor as big as it pretends to be. Beneath the glitz lives something rawer: loneliness, addiction, struggle. Miho doesn't look away from that. She paints it in vivid color, because that's the honest truth of this place.

And in that honesty, she finds something worth celebrating.
